How this calculator can help
Heart-rate zones can be a simple way to gauge workout intensity. The estimates do not account for fitness level, medications, pregnancy, heart rhythm conditions, or clinician-set limits, so how you feel still matters.
How the estimate works
The American Heart Association estimates maximum heart rate as 220 minus age. Moderate intensity is about 50–70% of that estimate and vigorous intensity about 70–85%. These are population-level guides, not individual medical limits.
Sources and methodology
We use transparent formulas and primary public-health or research sources. Calculators simplify real life, so their results should be interpreted as estimates.
