Simple varicose veins treatment at home

Varicose veins are enlarged and twisted veins which are usually found in our legs. It is said that heredity plays a major role, though a sedentary lifestyle can lead to these too. Women are the usual victims, but men also do get them especially if they sit or stand for too long due to their occupation or otherwise. For most it is just a cosmetic condition and something that looks ugly. But for some it can get a little complicated and bring in a lot of pain and discomfort.

Some people go for invasive treatments like surgery, chemical injections or laser therapies. But there are other varicose veins treatments which can be done at home. One can at least give them a try before going in for complicated procedures.

Massage – Varicose veins mostly take place due to the pooling of blood in those veins. This makes the elastic walls of such veins get twisted and they expand. Since this impedes the blood flow it can lead to pain and discomfort. Blood clots are another related risk. Hence it is recommended that you elevate your legs while lying down or sitting. This helps the venous blood to flow upwards towards the heart. Now, simple massage is one way in which the blood circulation can be improved. However, it should be done very gently and the strokes should always be upwards. It can help in smoothening out the twisted veins. Also the bulging veins should not be pressurized or massaged too hard. Coconut oil or olive oil is ideal for such purposes. You can even add in some essential oils like wintergreen or peppermint. It would give a more soothing effect.

Compression – Compression stockings is another effective treatment for varicose veins. If the varicose veins are in their initial stages, compression stockings could help a lot. The consistent and gentle pressure of the stockings helps in compressing as well as reducing the diameter of the veins. There are various kinds of compression garments available. However, it is better that you check with a medical practitioner before you start using one.

Mud packs – Many afflicted by varicose veins claim that mud packs help a lot with the pain. Fuller’s earth and other fine clay are considered best. All you need to do is mix in a little water and apply it to the legs at night time. The basic idea is that when the clay dries, the tightening effect works just like a compression stocking. Also clay is known to have a detoxifying effect as well. It is good for the skin and pulls out any impurities. This being said, if there is complication of ulcers, then fine clay is not advisable.

Diet – A good diet is always the key to being healthy. But those who are afflicted by varicose veins and spider veins should take specific care to have foods rich in vitamin B. Eggs, turkey, chicken, shrimps, salmon and tuna are some examples which have these vitamins. One should also include anti-inflammatory foods which would also help with the pain. This basically means more of leafy veggies, tomatoes, oily fish, ginger, turmeric, onions, garlic and berries.

We hope that the above varicose veins treatment help you with your pain.
