How to build a home gym for under $1000

There are lots of benefits to having a home gym, but what equipment should you buy for a well-rounded workout? Given the busy lifestyle most of us have, driving 20 minutes to a gym and back, adds up to hours of wasted time, so home gyms are also a great way to save time. If you set up a gym at your home, you can eliminate the travel costs, the huge fees for the gym and having to wait for a machine to open up.

If you are buying gym equipment, you can use it for a long time, so that the overall expenditure will be less compared to the membership fees that you have to pay every month.

If you have money for buying only one piece of equipment, then you should buy something that you can use for all muscle groups. An Olympic barbell set with a bench or a rack is a good place to start. Still, when doing large muscle group lifts, be sure that are using proper form so you don’t injure your back or neck. If you are dealing with these problems already, look for a universal weight system that uses a pin to select weight, instead of free weights.

If you decide to go with barbells, you should have enough money left over for a medicine ball, a slam ball filled with iron dust, and a kettlebell, like the ones sold by Vulcan.

If you can’t afford to buy brand new gym equipment, try to pick up a sale item or look on Craigslist for deals. Be sure to inspect the equipment first, however, because they may have a major defect, and you won’t have a warranty to stand on.

Before setting up your gym, make sure that you will actually use it. Additionally, consider whether you have prior experience with using the equipment before. Just because the machine or device sounds like a good idea, you should test it out first.

You should also enjoy using the equipment because you want to exercise every day with self-motivation. There are a number of benefits in exercising at home, particularly with respect to cancer prevention. In your home, there should be enough space to set up gym equipment. If you are not meeting all these criteria, setting up a home gym will be a waste of time, space, and money.

When you are purchasing home gym equipment, it should work efficiently for all muscle groups and should be affordable for you. If you do not prefer heavy workouts, you can do Yoga and Pilates, for this the only thing you need is a yoga mat and some stretch bands.  But, if you are pretty sure that you need a home gym, because you want to build muscle, then go for it.

You can easily create a home gym budget that is under $1000 with money to spare. You can also buy a pull-up bar, a portable dip bar, battle rope, jump rope, etc. If you want to get any extra items, check your budget and home space, and if it allows, then you can go for it.
